Dress-Turned-Skirt

- outfit details -
sweater || H&M
dress || Target
ankle boots || Charlotte Russe
clutch || J.Crew
necklace || Francesca's Collections
hat || Target
watch || Michael Kors

Who would've thought a $7 clearance dress from Target would also double as a great skirt option? I don't know what made me think of throwing a sweater over that dress, but I actually love how it turned out and plan on trying this look with other sweaters in the future! If you're looking to create new outfit options with clothes you already have, experiment and see which dresses you can style into "skirts"!

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Monday!

Fall Fedora + Textures

- outfit details -

boots || Calvin Klein (gift)

Well, fall is officially here! With these cooler, fluctuating temperatures comes the opportunity to experiment with various layers, textures and accessories. I have a feeling this burgundy fall fedora and I are going to be spending a lot of time together this season. I love wearing hats because 1) they're a lifesaver on bad hair days (or for trying to go as long as possible in between hair washes lol), 2) they can take an outfit to the next level, and 3) the extra warmth is always nice for a cold-natured person like myself!

When picking out a hat for your fall wardrobe, you can't go wrong with neutrals (black, brown, gray, etc.), though color can be fun! I went with this burgundy color because I tend to wear a lot of neutrals in the fall, so this particular hat will provide a nice, muted pop of color, as seen in this outfit.

Also, layering different textures is a great technique to keep in mind when putting together fall outfits. In this outfit alone there are six different textures (leather, faux croc leather, canvas, knit, felt, nylon). This technique also helps differentiate several pieces of the same color in one outfit.

Have a Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by!

Denim Shirt-Dress

 - outfit details -
dress || Target (similar)
wedges || Marshalls (old)
bag || Francesca's
hat || Target
lip color || Cover Girl Lip Perfection - "Hot - 305"

Even though these photos were taken back at the beginning of the summer, this an outfit that can easily transition to fall by switching the shoes (I'd go with either a pair of heeled ankle boots or closed-toe flats) and throwing on a scarf &/or light sweater! Also, a red lip is another great addition to your fall outfits, as it provides a great pop of color against fall hats and scarves.

Also, a shout-out to my handsome husband below! :) He's truly my best friend for life. Thanks for stopping by!

Airport Style

- outfit details -
jacket || Old Navy (similar)
tee || Target
jeans || Target
flip-flops || Old Navy (similar)
bag || Francesca's Collections
sunglasses || Forever 21
hat || Forever 21
rings || Forever 21

This time a couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were aboard a cruise ship on our way to Jamaica and the Caymen Islands to celebrate our one year anniversary, which is actually tomorrow! :)  Neither of us can believe how fast our first year of marriage has flown by! But more on that in tomorrow's post...

Before heading out on a trip, I try to keep a few things in mind when planning my airport outfit...

  • wear slip-on shoes (makes going through security quicker/easier)
  • wear a light jacket/sweater (or at least bring one along) over a lightweight top (helps with fluctuating temperatures)
  • wear comfortable bottoms like boyfriend jeans or leggings (an uncomfortable outfit + a long airplane ride is not a fun combo)
  • consider a hat (to me, it's the more stress-free option versus trying to keep up a certain hairstyle through long flights, layovers, climate changes and all the other factors that often come with traveling
  • carry a smaller, messenger-style purse (especially if bringing an additional carry-on bag - it can be a hassle to juggle multiple bags through the airport/plane, so the smaller the better with only the key essentials

I'll be sharing some outfits that I wore throughout our trip in coming posts - hopefully they'll provide some early summer outfit inspiration! Thanks for reading!

Until Next Winter...

- outfit details -
faux leather jacket || JCPenney (old)
zip-up hoodie || Target (old)
tee || H&M
jeans || Old Navy
ankle boots || Forever 21
hat || H&M
lips || Revlon Lip Butter "Sugar Plum"
nails || Essie "Turquoise & Caicos"

So this will probably be my last post about winter outfits for a while - or at least the last one that I'll be posting on here until later this year - 'cause let's face it, in Oklahoma, it wouldn't be a stretch for us to get snow in March! We've had BEAUTIFUL weather the past several days, and I pray it's here to stay! Working with layers and winter accessories has been great, but I'm looking forward to shifting my inspiration and creativity to spring/summer! If you're like me and feel weird about reaching for super bright colors until we're closer to spring's official start date, then go with grays, tans, creams, denim, etc. I've been wearing gray quite a bit recently and created a similar monochromatic look as this post's outfit in this post from last month.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm looking forward to a great weekend and hope you have a great one too! :)

Hat + Scarf {winter accessories}

- outfit details -
sweater || H&M
jeans || Forever 21(old, also styled here)
coat || Macy's (old)
booties || Target
bag || Phillip Lim for Target
scarf || H&M
hat || Target (also styled here)
rings || Forever 21

We've had the strangest weather in January! For Oklahoma though, it really can't be considered that strange. During the week we'll have temps in the low 30s and then the weekends will spike up to the low 60s! (We woke up to snow the other day, though these particular photos were taken from a snow day back in December.) The best way I know how to keep up with the constant fluctuating Oklahoma temperatures is to dress in layers and add on accessories. When I intentionally want to add warmth to an outfit, I always go for a hat and scarf. I'm still loving this floppy hat that I first tried out earlier in the fall. I plan to transition it into spring as well! This scarf has also been a go-to for me lately. I can wear it with pretty much any color, though I particular love the way it compliments* the mustard sweater in this outfit.

*style tip || Pair a solid color sweater/top with a printed scarf that incorporates the same color to create a polished, pulled together look.

As always, I appreciate you stopping by and hope these outfits continue to provide you with some inspiration in creating your own!
