Who would've thought a $7 clearance dress from Target would also double as a great skirt option? I don't know what made me think of throwing a sweater over that dress, but I actually love how it turned out and plan on trying this look with other sweaters in the future! I love a great bargain, but I love finding great bargains for items I can wear in current seasons or right before. Sometimes I'm hesitant about buying end of the season clearance items - even if something is marked down to an amazing price - because I worry that I won't like it a year from then or it might be a short-lived trend, which then makes the fact that it's on clearance irrelevant and pointless to saving me money. The plaid scarf above, however, was an item I most certainly knew I'd wear this season (and probably many to come - plaid is timeless!) when I bought it nearly a year ago at a great bargain! I love the red, white and blue combo because I wear a lot of denim and cream, and I love a good red lip, all of which are complimented by this great scarf! Of all the prints to choose from for a fall/winter scarf, I recommend going with plaid or tartan first! The variety of colors will enable you to wear it with a lot of different outfits, and plaid and fall just seem to go hand-in-hand!

Styling Overalls

I probably haven't worn overalls since my elementary days (which would make sense as I grew up in the 90s!) and have truly enjoyed their recent comeback! Styling overalls can be a lot of fun because there's a lot of fresh inspiration floating around as you'll see on this special Pinterest board I've created in light of this post. Layering is a styling technique that can be applied just as easily to styling overalls as it can with any other outfit. Overalls by their very nature are a very casual piece of clothing but adding a blazer and a pair of heeled booties automatically raises the sophistication! Adding other accessories like scarves, headbands, clutches, etc. is another creative way to "dress up" this casual clothing piece (you might recognize that head scarf from this recent post - I love how versatile it is!).

If you haven't given overalls a chance this season, I encourage you to try! They're really comfy and can be used to create many more outfits than you might think!

The neon color trend is one of those trends that I tend to like more on other people than myself. Personally, I'm drawn to more neutral, understated color palettes on any given day, though I do like mixing things up with brights every now and then. If I do go the neon route, I'll usually keep it simple by incorporating the color through minimal accessories, or I'll style the color in an understated way as with the outfit above -- the white, cut-out sweater tones down the bright neon yellow tank layered underneath, yet there's still an obvious pop of color.

{Closet Staple} Denim Vest

A denim vest is a great staple piece for your closet. The best thing about vests in general is their versatility to translate throughout all seasons. I found this particular denim vest at Target recently and have no doubt I will be looking for many excuses to wear it!

Other trends I'm loving right now are headbands/headscarves and layering midi rings. Forever 21 is a great spot to pick up various styles of midi rings at a low price, especially if you're wanting to experiment with the trend for the first time. (Tip: to avoid the grayish/greenish color that Forever 21 jewelry can leave over time, coat the inside of the ring with a light layer of clear nail polish.) They also have some great headbands/headscarves for spring and summer, again at low prices.
