Fall Fedora + Textures

Well, fall is officially here! With these cooler, fluctuating temperatures comes the opportunity to experiment with various layers, textures and accessories. I have a feeling this burgundy fall fedora and I are going to be spending a lot of time together this season. I love wearing hats because 1) they're a lifesaver on bad hair days (or for trying to go as long as possible in between hair washes lol), 2) they can take an outfit to the next level, and 3) the extra warmth is always nice for a cold-natured person like myself!

When picking out a hat for your fall wardrobe, you can't go wrong with neutrals (black, brown, gray, etc.), though color can be fun! I went with this burgundy color because I tend to wear a lot of neutrals in the fall, so this particular hat will provide a nice, muted pop of color, as seen in this outfit.

Also, layering different textures is a great technique to keep in mind when putting together fall outfits. In this outfit alone there are six different textures (leather, faux croc leather, canvas, knit, felt, nylon). This technique also helps differentiate several pieces of the same color in one outfit.

Winter Wonderland

When we had snow here in Oklahoma a few weeks back, I definitely kept reaching for the one faux fur item of clothing I own - just seemed appropriate! On this particular day I borrowed one of my husband's scarves - just another way to be resourceful ;). The burgundy color in the scarf inspired me to  choose a similar lip color, which definitely pulled this overall look together. Black, suede/tan, gray, and any burgundy variation are a great color scheme to experiment with during the winter months!

The snow was nice while it lasted, but I'm already dreaming of warmer temperatures. Fortunately that's bound to happen sooner or later living in the ever fluctuating temperatures of Oklahoma!

Here in Oklahoma we got our first legit snow of the season over the weekend, which inspired me to pull out all my winter accessories in preparation. I admit that I'm a total wimp when it comes to the cold. Having snow on the ground does seem to help make it a little more worth it though!

Last year I discovered how much I love and appreciate boot socks. They provide both warmth and some extra added style to any given outfit that calls for boots. And I have a feeling I'll be wearing boots a lot over the next few weeks! Although, who knows with Oklahoma - we could just as easily be back to the sixties next week! ;)

A few reasons why I'm loving this open sweater from Target...

1. The "oatmeal" color makes it a great neutral option that can coordinate with many outfits.
2. Because of the "open" style, it can be easily layered on or off depending on fluctuating temperatures encountered throughout fall/winter days. 
3. The length of the sweater hits below the hips, so it looks great with leggings, skinnies, or fleece-lined tights (the shirt/sweater underneath the open sweater must hit below the hips though - that's my rule - and should be the universal rule - for leggings as "pants").
4. The leather trim is the perfect detail to make the sweater feel on trend and more of a statement piece than a basic sweater.

Last week we finally got some fall temperatures here in Oklahoma! I could wear a version of this outfit everyday during the fall/winter months and be perfectly content. Jackets, scarves, boots - there's so much you can do with these fall staples! I usually enjoy wearing them in neutral colors head to toe, but occasionally I like adding a pop of color like I did with the scarf above.
